Sadhana, the transformative ritual

WORKSHOP- Two meetings (theoretical and practical) of kundalini yoga with Susana Tavares, Lugano Sud. DAY CHANGE

“Develop a regular practice and take charge of your life. Start every
day with a deep practice and every challenge will become a powerful
opportunities for growth.”

Theoretical meeting
2.30 – 4.15 p.m.
Practical meeting
5.45 – 7.45 am

“The greatest reward of Sadhana’s daily practice is that the
person becomes incapable of defeat. Getting up before dawn is a
victory over time and doing Sadhana is a victory over space.” – – Y. Bhajan

Sadhana means “spiritual practice” or “spiritual discipline” and can be
practiced at any time of the day. The hours before dawn are
considered, by various spiritual traditions, Western and Eastern, the most powerful
and suitable for this practice. In kundalini yoga, the complete practice of the
Sadhana includes work on various levels: asana, pranayama, meditation and
reading or reciting mantras.

Saturday’s meeting will be primarily theoretical:

  • What exactly does Sadhana consist of and how it is practiced in the
    kundalini yoga?
  • Why is it such a fundamental pillar and what are the most important aspects of it?
  • What are the objectives? How does it work? What effects does it have?
  • How do we set up a ritualized spiritual practice in our lives?
  • What is the daily routine of awakening before the sadhana in the
    kundalini yoga?

On Sunday we’ll do a two-hour sadhana practice before dawn,
to understand by experimenting, because experience is the most important thing.
“Sadhana is self-enrichment. It’s not something we do to please
someone else or to make money. The practice of sadhana is a personal process through which we bring out the best in ourselves.” – – Y. Bhajan

Saturday: CHF 32
Sunday: free appreciation

Susana – Kundalini Yoga

Susana: I approached yoga and oriental philosophies in the 90s, during my university period. Since then I have continued to pursue my research on the meaning of life and spirituality – an impulse I felt inside since I was a child – and I have continued to cultivate an interest in physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, despite my passion for poetry, languages and psychotherapy, I graduated in Economics at the age of 22.

After a very intense period, working as an employee of a multinational business consulting firm and living mainly in luxury hotels in big cities, I came to a biographical crisis. I decided to become freelance and started, in 2002, a deep process towards self-knowledge, starting from a period of “semi-heremity” above the mountains of Assisi, Italy.

In addition to several journeys (including India and the Amazon), the course has included an in-depth study, both theoretical and practical, of various spiritual and self-knowledge lines, from yoga to shamanism, to Christian esotericism and the books by Carlos Castañeda, Rudolf Steiner, Pietro Archiati, Thorwald Dethlefsen, Rudiger Dahlke, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Ekhart Tolle, and Michael Brown, among others. In the meantime I was working as an independent consultant and lecturer in business management at the University of Perugia.

I started practicing Kundalini Yoga regularly in 2005, inspired by the teachings of Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, a direct student of Yogi Bhajan, after a trial period of Hatha Yoga and Ashtanga.

The benefits received from the practice of Kundalini Yoga pushed me to continue and deepen the practice. These can be perceived in better physical fitness, more vitality, resilience and willpower, greater acceptance of myself and a growing awareness of the importance of working for the benefit of the world and others.

In 2017, after 12 years of Kundalini Yoga and meditation practice, I attended the teacher training course and obtained certification from the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) at Triyoga in London (UK), under the guidance of Gurmukh. Since then I have been a member of the International Kundalini Yoga Teacher’s Association (IKYTA).

After living around in various countries, I currently live in Ticino, Switzerland. I teach at Yoga Roof in Pambio-Noranco on Monday and Friday evenings and privately in Cureglia on Tuesdays. I also hold workshops and retreats of kundalini yoga, gong, meditation, detox and mindfulness (using different techniques and perceptual tools, but based first of all on the work of Michael Brown, as exposed in his book “The Presence Process”).

Mother of two children, I am a supporter of the practice of yoga in pregnancy and of natural and conscious childbirth.

In general, I am very active and enthusiastic in promoting and spreading salutogenesis and techniques with potential to expand consciousness, develop human dignity, increase authenticity and sense of personal and social responsibility and, in general, in stimulating human beings to take a more active role towards self-knowledge and self-acceptance.

Alongside my work as a yoga teacher, I still work internationally as a business consultant and project manager in organization, management control, strategy and sustainability, trying to make the business world more honest and genuine, rich in values and sustainable, in every sense.

In addition to yoga and life, I love poetry, music, nature, mountain walks and jogging.
