Friday June 23
18.30 – 20.30: Masterclass (60.- chf)
In Jivamukti Yoga, every month there is a particular focus of study, drawn from the classical teachings of Yoga, and related to issues we are dealing with in contemporary society. This Masterclass will begin with a chant related to the focus of the month, followed by some breath awareness and a rigorous Vinyasa practice focussing on Forward Bends and Hip Openers. The class will be accompanied by a sound track of hip Indian beats, powerful Sanskrit Mantras, World Music and Spoken Word. Thought-provoking teachings and alignment instruction will be interspersed throughout the class. A Master Class does not mean that you have to be an advanced practitioner, but it means that it is taught by a teacher with an advanced level of practice and teaching..
Saturday June 24
Sunday June 25
9.00 – 12.00:Workshop I: INVERSIONS AND ARM BALANCES (85.- chf)
This workshop will begin with Chanting, Meditation and Pranayama. We will then go through a thorough warm-up for the wrists and hands. This will be followed by a rigorous Vinyasa Practice that will prepare us for Hand- and Arm Balances. We will then workshop these Asanas by building a solid foundation and gradually, in taking different approaches, add building blocks towards achieving a moment of freedom and confidence in the poses. Again, this workshop will examine how the effect of these poses relate to the philosophical concepts explained in Maharshi Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra.

14.00 – 16.00: Workshop II ASANA LAB (75.- chf)

Based on the observations of the week-end and the needs of participants, some Asanas will be examined for in-depth exploration and a basic understanding of assists. It also will be a forum to ask questions related to personal issues in Asanas. It is recommended that you have taken at least one of the other Workshops and/or the Master Class, in order to be able to benefit from this workshop.

Reservation for workshops are binding. If for any reason you should not be able to attend a workshop you are signed up for, we kindly ask you to cancel your reservation with at least 24 hour notice. Should this not be the case, the class will be billed.

Jivamukti is Hip: in the eighties, Sharon Gannon & David Life, the founders of the Jivamukti Yoga method, brought Yoga into the most radical underground communities in the East Village of New York. In doing so, they integrated the hidden and mysterious teachings of yoga into the artistic avant-garde, and made Yoga “Hip”, i.e. relevant for people living in a vibrant, creative and forward thinking urban environment. Jivamukti is spiritualized performance art, where poetry, dance, asana and music are coming together with Vedic wisdom teachings, and the audience are its actors.

Jivamukti is Hot, because it addresses the most burning issues of our times. The Asana practice generates inner heat that allows practitioners to transform stagnation in the body and melt away old paradigms, habits and conditioned behavior in the mind.

Jivamukti is Holy. When we clear physical and mental obstacles out of the way, we have an opportunity to experience what was revealed in the Shrutis (sacred texts of India), which is that essentially, we are made of pure love, pure light, and pure joy.

Jivamukti Yoga — often called the Wild Child of Yoga for its artistic and activist inspiration — was founded by Sharon Gannon (Tripura Sundari) and David Life (Deva Das) in New York, in 1986, and is defined as a Path to Enlightenment through Compassion towards all beings. The core practice is Asana, supported by elements of 5 tenets: Ahimsa (non-violence), Shastra (scripture), Nada (sound), Bhakti (devotion), Dhyana (meditation). These tenets are based on the classical teachings of Yoga, and illuminated as relevant guidelines for life, on and off the mat. The Jivamukti Yoga method teaches how to improve one’s quality and joy of life by bringing harmony into our relationships.
